Sonya Rinehart Named 2024 Regional Principal of the Year

Congratulations to Principal Sonya Rinehart, who has earned the distinction of being the 2024 Wells Fargo Northeast Regional Principal of the Year! 

Ms. Rinehart shares a vision to transform learning experiences for students so they may elevate their life position.  She has worked passionately to offer opportunities for students to explore their talents and grow to be global citizens.  Under her leadership, the school has bolstered their Career and Technical Student Organizations by building partnerships with local industry and our Chamber of Commerce.  Ms. Rinehart is also a pilot school with Participate Learning to integrate global, social and emotional competencies into core instruction to support the state’s “Portrait of a Graduate.”  These relationships emphasize Ms. Rinehart’s commitment to graduate students with the competencies required to be career and college ready!

Brittney Lopez Named 2023-2024 ECPS Assistant Principal of the Year

Congratulations to Chowan Middle School Assistant Principal Ms. Brittney Lopez for being selected by her peers to be the 2023-2024 Edenton-Chowan Schools Assistant Principal of the Year!  

Ms. Lopez brings a deep passion for growing teachers and a joy for helping students make healthy choices every single day! CMS is a National Forum Schools to Watch and Ms. Lopez is a leader to watch!

Dani Fisher Named 2023-2024 ECPS Brenda B. Winborne Beginning Teacher of the Year

Congratulations to John A. Holmes High School Career and Technical Education teacher Ms. Dani Fisher for being the 2023-24 recipient of the Brenda B. Winborne Beginning Teacher of the Year Award! Ms. Fisher brings out our students' culinary talents by inspiring a love for food and a desire to bring joy to others!

This award is given in honor and memory of Mrs. Winborne who retired from the school system with 30 years of service. She served as a teacher, a teacher evaluator for the district, an assistant principal and a principal at Chowan Middle School. She was recognized during her tenure as principal as the regional principal of the year. After retiring, Mrs. Winborne served as the Beginning Teacher Coordinator for the school system and a supervisor of student teachers for East Carolina University for several years before completely retiring from work in education. She was a role model and mentor to many people over her years of service as an excellent educator.
