Secondary Education

The Secondary Education Department oversees the curriculum for grades 6 through 12. Areas of involvement include Career and Technical Education, Virtual Learning options, dual enrollment with our local community college, and STEM programs.

Opportunities for Transformation

Our main objective is to ensure that students graduate from high school ready for the transformative future that lies ahead. The world has undergone significant changes since the start of the twenty-first century. Our educators are committed to equipping students for the world of tomorrow, not just the one we currently live in.

Middle school students have access to accelerated course work as well as courses for high school credit.
High school students have access to honors, AP, and college coursework.
Each student has a Chromebook and uses Google Apps for Education to help facilitate collaborative learning.
School counselors work directly with our students to help them prepare for life after graduation.
Our schools feel like families. Students have the opportunity to join numerous clubs and extra-curricular activities to include North Carolina High School Athletic Association recognized sports teams.

College and Career Readiness

Edenton-Chowan Public Schools recognizes the importance of students discovering career paths early in their education. The process of career and college exploration starts in middle school and is further developed in high school through various activities, including job shadowing, internships, pre-apprenticeships, career fairs, interest assessments, and college fairs. Work-based learning remains a growing focus, providing students with the opportunity to gain direct experience and insight into the responsibilities and qualifications needed for their chosen careers.

Career and College Promise

Career & College Promise (CCP) is North Carolina's dual enrollment program designed for high school students. This initiative provides eligible NC high school students the opportunity to enroll in college courses at North Carolina community colleges and universities through their high school. Successfully completing these courses allows students to earn college credits that can be transferred after graduation. Additionally, many courses offer dual credit, enabling students to meet high school graduation requirements while earning college credit. The program offers students the flexibility to choose from the following pathways:

College Transfer — Designed for students planning to continue their educational career beyond high school to eventually achieve an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree at a community college or university.
Career & Technical Education — Allows students to begin a certification or diploma program in a particular technical field or career area.
