Angie Walston, Principal

 Mrs. Angie Walston joined the staff of White Oak Elementary School in 2014. She has 23 years of professional educator experience.  She earned her Master of School Administration degree from East Carolina University.  Go, Pirates!  Prior to joining the White Oak staff, Mrs. Walston served as a teacher in Martin County and in Wilson County.  She earned her National Board Certification in 2006 with recertification in 2016, and was selected by her peers as Teacher of the Year for White Oak Elementary School in 2018.  Mrs. Walston has a passion for supporting the professional growth of teachers.  She has service as a Beginning Teacher Coach and Cooperating Teacher with East Carolina University for teacher interns.

 Viri Arzae, Assistant Principal

Mrs. Arzate joined the staff of D.F. Walker Elementary School in 2025, bringing 11 years of professional educator experience. She earned her Master of School Administration degree from East Carolina University.  Mrs. Arzate began her career after earning a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education with a major in Spanish from Escuela Normal Superior de Nayarit, Mexico.

She has served as both a Spanish teacher and an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher in Tyrrell County Schools and at John A. Holmes High School in Edenton-Chowan Schools. A lifelong advocate for students’ education, Mrs. Arzate is committed to fostering academic growth, promoting a safe and supportive learning environment, and building strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
