Sonya Rinehart, Principal

Mrs. Rinehart earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in History from North Carolina State University and her Master’s Degree in School Administration and Curriculum & Instruction from East Carolina University.   Mrs. Rinehart is AIG certified and also earned her National Board Certification in Secondary Social Studies. 

Mrs. Rinehart served as a Social Studies and Advanced Placement teacher at John A. Holmes High School for 17 years. In addition to multiple teacher-leadership positions in the school, including the International Studies Program Coordinator.

Mrs. Rinehart has devoted her 24-year career to the Edenton-Chowan Schools system even while serving seven years as a Teacher-on-Loan to the North Carolina Department of Public Education where she served as the Regional Education Facilitator. 

Beatrice Cherry, Assistant Principal

Mrs. Cherry is a visionary educational leader who is committed to providing high-quality learning experiences for all students and enthusiastically facilitating the growth of teacher leaders. Her professional pathway yielded her opportunities to become well versed in curriculum development and best practices in instructional design.
Mrs. Cherry is currently enrolled in the Master of School Administration program at Elizabeth City State
University and will complete her studies in December. Additionally, she holds undergraduate degrees from
Grand Valley State University and Darton College. Prior to joining the teaching staff of John A. Holmes High School in 2019, Ms. Cherry served on the staff of Bertie High School.

Kris Reis, Assistant Principal

Mr. Reis has 31 years of experience in education at the elementary, high school, and community college level. Mr. Reis was the Accelerated Learning Coordinator for Perquimans County Schools before joining our school family. Mr. Reis earned a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from NC State University in 1999 and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Edinboro University in 2009. Mr. Reis devotes his leadership to staff development, promoting safe environments and optimizing student learning.
