Become a Substitute Teacher with ECPS
We would love to have you join Edenton-Chowan Public Schools as a substitute teacher—it’s a simple process!
Steps to Get Started:

Complete the SUBSTITUTE 101 training.
This is your first step toward becoming a substitute teacher. -
Submit an application through our online application system.
Note: Applications open periodically throughout the year in preparation for upcoming orientations. -
Attach your SUBSTITUTE 101 completion certificate to your application once it becomes available.

Attend a required orientation and be approved by the Board of Education.

District-wide orientations are typically held twice a year—in August/September and January/February.

Occasionally, individual schools may host additional sessions based on interest.

PROFESSIONAL EDUCATOR'S LICENSE INFORMATION
The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction's Licensure Section is responsible for examining credentials and issuing professional educator's licenses that qualify individuals to seek employment as teachers, administrators, and other special service personnel in North Carolina public schools. All professional employees of public schools must hold a professional educator's license for the subject or grade level they teach or for the professional education assignment they hold. SALARY SCHEDULES
State Salary Schedules: Certified educator salary schedules include teachers, certified instructional support and school-based administrators.
Last updated: Updates made by the NCDPI annually
Local Salary Schedules: Non-certified or non-licensed staff salary schedules include teacher assistants, custodians, child nutrition, office support, maintenance, transportation, technology and other positions that do not require a professional educator's license. These salary schedules are governed by approved legislation by the general assembly regarding annual salary increases that set minimum pay. Step increases are approved annually by the ECPS Board of Education. If you wish to know specific information about the ECPS classified salary schedule, please contact ECPS by calling 252-482-4436 and ask for the Human Resource Department.

The North Carolina General Assembly's 2011-2012 Appropriations Act directed the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction to implement this new Excess Educator's Legal Liability Policy. All faculty and staff can check general information regarding renewal credit history and staff development for license renewal by clicking on the link below.
To check your CEUs, please log into the Employee Portal—the same place where you access your pay vouchers. From there:

Click on CEU/Workshop.

Then click Submit CEU for Approval.

Under the Completion Date drop-down menu, select All Dates.

Under the Status dropdown, select All as well.
