Information for Families
"Learning is a treasure that will follow its owner everywhere." ~ Chinese Proverb
Welcome, parents and students, to the D. F. Walker Elementary School website. This section of the website has been designed specifically for you and your student. We invite you to explore and stay up-to-date with what’s happening in your child’s school. You will find important information and links here related to the Parent-Student Handbook, Parent Teacher Association (PTA), school supplies, student e-mail, and the Parent Portal – our official instructional improvement system where you can see student grades, class schedules, and results from assessments.

Lost & Found: Please remember to check the "Lost and Found" bin located in the Tutoring Room for any items that your child may have misplaced. To help minimize the loss of your child's things, please be sure to have all of your child's belongings labeled with their name.
Parent Portal: You can view your child's grades, attendance, and other academic information by visiting the Parent Portal. A link to the portal is located under the "Parents & Students" tab and on this page under "Helpful Resources." All data within the system is live (i.e. up-to-date). We encourage you to use this resource to monitor your child's progress in school. Please contact the DFW Data Manager to complete an application. You will need a photo ID when submitting the completed application.
School Safety: We ask that all students walk unescorted to class unless you have a scheduled appointment with a teacher or staff member. Before your appointment, please check in with the office.
Attendance: Students will be marked tardy at 8:00 AM if they are not in class. Also, please do not plan to pick up your child prior to 3:05 PM on a routine basis as he/she will miss valuable instructional time.
Bus Regulations: Students who come to school on the bus should return home on the same bus unless they have a note from a parent and the assistant principal/principal approves it.
Bus Changes: Students must have a consistent weekly bus schedule with a maximum of 2 drop-off locations. For example, a student may go home and to dance, but may not go to home, dance, and the Boys & Girls Club. Bus notes will only be processed on Mondays for the coming week. Notes must be in the office by 11:00 AM. If you are not able to send a note, please fax a note. This includes changes for students that will be picked up instead of riding the bus. We are unable to accept changes via phone or e-mail. In order to ensure students reach their destination safely, all bus change notes must include:
- Date (note was written)
- Student's Full Name
- Teacher's Name
- Bus Number
- Specific Address (where the student will be dropped off/picked up)
- Date(s) Affected
- Parent/Guardian Signature & Contact Information
Emergency Bus Changes: While we do recognize that emergencies arise, changes can only be granted in extreme emergencies. These situations will be examined closely and can only be approved by an administrator.
Dress Code: Leggings must be covered by a shirt or skirt that is at least fingertip in length. Shoes designed for running and playing and held securely in place help ensure safety. Students will not be permitted to run or play in shoes that are deemed unsafe. For more detailed information about dress code, please see the Parent/Student Handbook.
