Information for Families

POSITIVE BEHAVIOR INTERVENTIONS & SUPPORTThe CMS family believes that all students can be successful. In order to maximize academic engagement and achievement for all students, the school has implemented a PBIS model. PBIS addresses character education, classroom management, and disciplinary issues in a proactive manner that allows the teacher to reward students when they exhibit behaviors that are representative of established, taught, and modeled expectations. Rewards for positive behavior are given in the form of incentives at the individual, team, grade and school-wide level throughout the year. PBS at CMS is working well. It is a matter of finding what 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students like to do and use incentives that address those likes. Our referral data has improved each year of implementation and we have received Exemplar Status by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction for 9 years in a row. |
